Best Basement Window Coverings – Max Privacy Blinds

How do you protect privacy and maximize functionality, like light control?

The basement is a magical place: a cave of wonders, if you will. It can be almost anything, from an entire apartment to a man cave to a home theater, a playroom, and so much more. The possibilities are nearly endless. However, what all basements share in common is the need for privacy. Being below ground level, basement windows give passersby a bird’s-eye view of everything going on. So how do you protect privacy and maximize functionality, like light control? You find the right basement window coverings; that’s how.

Before we touch on the best window treatments for the basement, let’s address a few to avoid.

  • Wood Blinds: While you might be able to get away with wood blinds in the basement, heat and humidity can be cause for concern, especially during those summer months on the East Coast. And as we have said on multiple occasions, heat, humidity, and wood blinds do not mix.
  • Honeycomb Shades: Again, erring on the side of caution, we would advise against honeycomb shades in the basement. Moisture can wreak havoc on the fabric.

Now for the good. There several window treatments that can really help enhance the look of your basement as well as privacy and light control. For starters, Faux Wood Blinds are a great option. They look like wood, but they are better able to standup to moisture…and they are cheaper. That’s what we like to call a win-win.

Additional options include:

  • Shutters can also work great in the basement. Again, we would recommend vinyl over wood, just to be safe.
  • Roller Shades are popular because of their easy operation, convenience, and wide array of style options.
  • Aluminum Blinds are a great option for the homeowner on a tight budget.
